Church Board Message

February 2008

There are so many good things happening!

The Make It Happen Task Force, with the help of many and led by Cary Browse, is proceeding nicely, with great energy, and evaluating many ideas — both new and old. Our RE Director, Liza Spisto, and our RE and YAC committees, are looking beyond our traditional ways of building a safe space for our children and youth, and have begun to engage the Board in these ideas. The budget season begins anew, led by our Treasurer Rick High. As this year’s initiatives and programs near completion, we look to the comihng church year to determine what we might do next.

And many people contribute their time and energy in many ways both in and outside of our church: Loaves and Fishes, Habitat for Humanity, our Music and Worship committees, Woman’s Alliance, Harvard Local, Green Sanctuary, among many others. All are working independently and together to extend our community beyond our own space to personally engage people at many different levels.

So as our committees begin looking into the future to extend their programs into 2009, I ask that you take a moment and look at each other and know your efforts demonstrate the love you have for this larger community. We thank all of you, mentioned or not, for your service.

The Board heard a proposal last month to begin a process for capturing and remembering the history, and gifts, of those who have brought our congregation to where we are today. This proposal suggested looking back over the 50 years from 1950 to 2000 and might begin with a brochure that could be shared with new or prospective members. My current thought is to kick off this group in March, on a Sunday perhaps before the service, to talk about what interested people might like to do as a group.

For now I’d like to call this group our “Ministry of Remembrance”, or “MORE”, and am hoping this name speaks to the work this group will do together. Several people have expressed interest in helping, and anyone should feel comfortable joining in the discussion even if mildly interested. Look for an announcement in our Chalice Chat.
