Women's Alliance

Our mission is to bring together the women of our church to discuss
issues important to women,
to offer an opportunity for intergenerational
friendship, and to support the special needs of the church.
All are welcome.

Evening Meetings: Due to the construction of the new Fellowship
Building, this year's meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month
in the Bigelow Room in the Church. A potluck supper will be shared at 6:30 pm, followed
by a brief business meeting. The program begins about 7: 30 pm.
|
Daytime Meetings: Daytime meetings this year will be field
trips. The meeting time for these day trips will be announced later.
|
Cancellations: In the event of questionable weather, evening meetings
may be postponed one week to the following Wednesday. To confirm call Karen Davis

Dues: $5 per year, payable at any time. Make checks payable to
Harvard Branch Alliance. |

| ALLIANCE ACTIVITIES |
Bargains in the Belfry
Open Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and occasional Sundays after the worhsip
service. Lightly used women's clothes are accepted for sale (consignment or
donation).
|
Book Table
New books from Beacon Press, Skinner Publishing, and others are available for purchase
after church on Sundays.
|
Boxwood Tree Project
Boxwood greens are assembled into small trees and decorated. The trees
are available for sale after church in mid-December. This is a major Alliance fund
raiser.
|
Lending Library
Books about women's lives, histories and autobiographies, and other books
of interest are available on loan to church members.

Chris Mohn
One Kid, One World
Chris and her 7th grade students are making a difference in the lives of children
in need around the globe: one world, one school, one kid at a time. They are working
to raise money to add two new classrooms to the Lolkuniyani Primary School in the
Samburu Region of northern Kenya and to bring in a water catchment system. |

Dr. Nancy Hendries
The Sharing Foundation
This organization was founded by Dr. Nancy Hendries of Concord, MA to help meet the
physical, emotional, educational, and medical needs of orphaned and seriously disadvantaged
children in Cambodia. She has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2009
recipient of its Special Award for Excellence in Medical Service.

Otto Solbrig
Making a Difference
Janus, the Roman god of gates, doors, doorways, beginnings, and endings, was frequently
used to symbolize change and transitions. Otto considers life a series of transitions
that remind him of Janus. He will briefly highlight events in his life when either he
made a difference or others made a difference in his life.

Patty Ruze
Medicine at MCI
Dr. Ruze is the medical director at MCI in Concord. She will talk about her work
at the prison. Prior to her prison work she was in the Peace Corps.

Judy Lorimer
Build a School in Africa Project
Retired Harvard Kindergarten teacher Judy Lorimer began studying African dance and culture in 1991 and made her
first trip to Africa in 1995. Judy will discuss her work with the Build a School in Africa Project including the
involvement of Bromfield students over the years, demonstrate drumming, and show pictures of the four schools that
have been built since 1995.

Marion Stoddart
Cleaning Up the Nashua River
Marion Stoddart of Groton has worked for 45 years to change a stinking and many colored Nashua River into
a sparkling and beautiful river that can be swum and fished. She brought the river back to life by organizing
people, finding grants and creating the Nashua River Watershed Association. Past, Present, and Future Marion
and the Nashua are a fascinating adventure and important to our communities where we live. |

Concord Museum
We will be traveling to Concord for a docent-led tour of the Concord Museum and a short film about the history
of the town. There should be time to explore. We will have lunch at the Concord Prison. |

Louise Dorian
The Art of Dance
A celebration of the beauty of the feminine spirit through the art of dance - the ancient art of belly dancing
(or Middle Eastern dance) and the beautiful Latin rhythms. Choreographies of both styles will be interspersed
with instruction to introduce you to basic movements and steps. |
